Abstract. In the article the specificity of functioning of the concept “family” in the languages and culture of the peoples of Great Altai is studied on the basis of the comparative analysis of lexicographic sources and data of the free associative experiment. The semantic content of the informative, figurative and interpretational components of the concept “family” is revealed and its paradigmatic and syntagmatic links in the linguistic worldview of the Kazakhs, the Mongols, the Chinese and the Russians are identified. The conclusions are of practical importance in teaching Russian as a foreign language.
