Abstract.
The article is devoted to the author’s style of the novel “The Possibility of the Island” (“La Possibilité d’une île”) by the contemporary French writer M. Houellebecq and to the problem of its translation into the Russian language. The paper reveals lexical, syntactic and stylistic features inherent in the idiostyle of the novel under analysis. Considerable attention is paid to the specificity of graphic design of the text, punctuation, as well as foreign (non-French) lexicon. The study is constructed in the form of a comparative-contrastive analysis of the original and its translation, which makes it possible to assess the adequacy of conveying various aspects of idiostyle and to draw conclusions based on numerous illustrative materials.
