“SONGS OF THE GONE TO ISTANBUL” AND THE MEMORY OF THE ANCESTORS IN THE FOLKLORE OF THE KARACHAY-BALKAR DIASPORA

Abstract.
The article is devoted to historical songs in the folklore of the Karachay-Balkar abroad; it provides a detailed analysis of the cycle of historical songs related to Muhajirism - “Stambulchulany zhyrlary” (“Songs of the Gone to Istanbul”). This cycle of historical songs has not yet been adequately covered in the national folklore studies and is being examined at present, but the significance of this historical genre in the development of the oral poetic creativity of the diaspora cannot be overestimated. Information representing this genre of the Karachay-Balkar folklore is taken from the foreign and Russian sources. It is stated that the themes of the lost homeland, longing for the Caucasus and reconciliation with the new country are the most important in the “Songs ...”.
