Abstract.
The article examines the colour scale of the Avar language, which surely should be considered when analyzing the artistic means of the Avar poets and writers since colour terms are one of the key components of figurativeness in fiction. Each of the authors has his own preferable colour spectrum, combinations of colours and shades. Colour terms perform nominative-illustrative, esthetic and symbolic functions in a literary text. The paper concludes that colour is a feature, which acquires symbolic interpretation in folk culture and the functioning of colour terms in the Avar literature contributes to deeper understanding of national and cultural specificity of Avar artistic culture.
