Abstract.
The article analyzes Charles Dickens’s image in John Forster’s biography “The Life of Charles Dickens”. The main objective is to identify the ways to create the prose writer’s positive image. The paper analyzes the features of the biography and the autobiographical aspects present in the book. Forster focuses on Dickens’s merits, smoothing or ignoring his shortcomings, thanks to which the biographer succeeds in creating the traditional image of the “inimitable” writer, which in many ways influenced every Dickens’s biography written in the sequel. A distinctive feature of the work is that it prioritizes consideration of the principles of the image creating rather than the genre features of the biography.
