MODES OF LITERARY TRANSLATION OF REPETITIONS INTO THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE NOVEL “THE LOST WORLD” BY ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE)

Abstract. The article analyzes repetition as an expressive means of literary speech by the example of the novel “The Lost World” by Arthur Conan Doyle. Repetition is understood as a speech device based on repeating sounds, words, morphemes, synonyms or syntactic constructions, which are located near each other. During the research, such types of stylistic repetitions, found in the text of the source, as anaphora, epiphora, framing, anadiplosis, polysyndeton, syntactic parallelism, some phraseological units containing repetitions, as well as the cases of tautology are characterized. The paper reveals the functions of the above mentioned repetitions. The modes of translation of stylistic repetitions are considered. The author concludes that most of the repetitions in the translation remain, having literary expressiveness, and a third of the repetitions do not play a significant role in the formation of expressiveness, therefore they are deliberately omitted or translated using other language means.
