Abstract.
The article considers the artistic conception of war suggested by A. Prokhanov in one of his war novels of the dilogy (“Those Marching through the Night” and “The Chechen Blues”) about the Chechen events of the turn of the XX-XXI centuries. This conception differs cardinally from the vision of war in the Soviet literature, and these differences indicate the formation of a “new conception of war” in the modern war prose. By the example of one particular novel, the authors try to formulate and justify a radically different perception of war typical of the current war literature usually associated with the Chechen events. The term “new conception of war” acquires new characteristics associated with religious perception of the Chechen war battles.
