Abstract.
The article analyses the poetics of A. N. Ostrovsky’s plays, which unfold in the artistic space of two imaginary Volga towns - Kalinov and Bryakhimov. A. N. Ostrovsky’s “Volga” plays have attracted relatively little scientific attention in comparison with “Moscow” ones. However, the study of the artistic space of “Volga” plays, such as “The Storm” (1859), “The Ardent Heart” (1869), “The Forest” (1870), “Without a Dowry” (1879), “Talents and Admirers” (1881), “The Handsome Man” (1882), is essential taking into account that A. N. Ostrovsky’s creative work forms the core of the Volga text. The study deepens and broadens the modern conception of a local text in its particular aspect - the Volga text.
