From Interiorization to Exteriorization: Conflict between the Detective and the Criminal in G. Swift’s Novel “The Light of Day”

Abstract.
The article is devoted to studying complicated relations established between the detective and the criminal in G. Swift’s novel “The Light of Day”. The paper aims to analyse how the process of interiorization influences both the criminal and the private detective. Special attention is paid to the events, which are not in tune with the ideal worldview formed in the personages’ consciousness. The conclusion is made that discrepancy between the surrounding reality and the individual’s inner world leads to excessive introspection and criminality.
