Abstract.
The paper aims to identify hidden pre-text of T. Mann’s novel “The Magic Mountain”, which turns out to be L. von Sacher-Masoch’s narrative prose. Novelty of the study is in the fact that genetic connection between Mann and Masoch has not been ascertained yet; and recently researchers have been paying closer attention to T. Mann’s intertextual structures. The attained results make it possible to give a new interpretation to the most important ending element of “The Magic Mountain” - the result of the relationship between Hans Castorp and Clawdia Chauchat.
