Semi-Affixation Role in Word-Formative System of the Modern English Language

Abstract. The research objective includes identifying semi-affixation role in the word-formative system of the modern English language. The article examines semi-affixation as a means of word-formation in the English language, describes the basic features of the English semi-affixes, singles out differential criteria of semi-affixes, reveals their morphological, semantic and functional peculiarities. The authors identify differential criteria of semi-affixes, trace changes in their semantics, explore the hierarchical structure of semi-affixes within the framework of the word-formative field theory, which constitutes scientific originality of the study. The research findings are as follows: differential criteria of semi-affixes are ascertained, their hierarchical structure is revealed.
