Abstract.
The paper aims to reveal genre peculiarities of “Nouvelle Espagnole” (Spanish Novella) (1745) by the French authoress Françoise de Graffigny. The article analyzes poetological peculiarities of the French novels and novellas of the XVII-XVIII centuries, shows their realization in “Nouvelle Espagnole”. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that for the first time in the domestic literary criticism, the researcher analyzes the novella by the French writer whose creative work is still poorly investigated. As a result, it is proved that F. de Graffigny’s novella bears influence of classicism and pre-sentimentalism, combines features of the novel and the novella genre.
