Nature of Conflict of “Silent” and “Boomer” Generations in Works by K. Ishiguro

Abstract. The aim of the research is to analyse the nature and origins of the conflict of the “Silent” (1925-1942) and the “Boomer” (1943-1960) generations in the works of K. Ishiguro. The scientific originality of this article lies in the insufficient study of the still acute conflict of generations, represented in the works by K. Ishiguro (the story “A Strange and Sometimes Sadness” and the novels “A Pale View of Hills”, “The Unconsoled”, “When We Were Orphans”, “Never Let Me Go”). As a result, we conclude that the conflict is based on alienation and lack of closeness between children and parents, parental neglect, separation from the existing tradition and the loss of roots by the Boomer, their fear of rejection, as well as rapid technological progress.
