Abstract.
The aim of the study is to reveal the essence of the “secondary language situation” in the analysis of the socio-cultural adaptation of the text of Ch. P. Snow’s novel “Corridors of Power” while translating it into the Russian language and the expediency of the linguo-cultural characteristics of the text to achieve the adequacy of its translation. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time the socio-cultural component of the literary professionally marked text (the sphere of public administration in England) has been studied and its thematic classification has been carried out; the cases of inconsistency of the author’s text with reality and, as a result, translation errors have been revealed. As a result, the validity of the adaptive stage of translation and the expediency of the linguo-cultural characteristics of the text at the stage of its interpretation are confirmed.
