Principles of creating a mythological novel in contemporary Russian-language literature (based on the novel “The Finnish Sun” by I. Abuzyarov)

Abstract.
The aim of the study is to identify the principles of creating a mythological novel based on the novel “The Finnish Sun” by Ildar Abuzyarov. The article examines the problem of the formation of the mythological novel genre in modern Russian-language prose, as well as the relationship between the text of I. Abuzyarov’s novel “The Finnish Sun” and biblical motifs. The article uses the text of the novel to demonstrate the features of the mythologization of the space of modern Nizhny Novgorod. It identifies the real-life topoi of Nizhny Novgorod, which are presented in the novel as sacred spaces. The scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that it is the first one to describe and systematize the principles of creating a mythological novel using the mythologization of real historical spaces. The study reveals that the mythologized topoi presented in the novel are comparable to the real objects of Nizhny Novgorod. It proves not only the world-modeling function of the chronotope, but also its meaning- and genre-forming functions. The principles of creating a mythological novel are explained, including the cyclical nature of time and space, the division of space into “Hell” and “Heaven” on earth, and the presence of allusions to biblical stories. The analysis and interpretation of the literary text, as well as the comparison of the novel’s characters with the real locations of Nizhny Novgorod, have helped to reveal the unique features of creating a mythological novel.
