Abstract.
The study aims to establish common linguistic attributes within the phonetic, morphological, and semantic fields of the German-Slavic lexical correlates “der Luchs” and “рысь” (lynx). To achieve this goal, a detailed reconstruction of the historical development of these lexemes from their common Indo-European progenitor was conducted. The primary focus is on phonetic regularities, the typological features of the morphological system, and the cultural contexts of these lexical parallels’ realization in speech. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that, while identifying unique and common evolutionary trajectories inherent in the lexical correlates of distantly related languages, semantic diachronic changes were also established and described for the first time. These results were made possible by integrating data from onomastics and phraseology with historical grammar and phonetics data. The results of the comparative-historical analysis reveal the main stages of the emergence of the German-Slavic lexical parallels “der Luchs” – “рысь” from a single Indo-European archetype, as well as the vector of their linguistic ontogenesis, specifying their role and place in modern linguistic realities. It was established that the examined lexical correlates preserve their Proto-Indo-European root-qualified core despite divergent phonetic-morphological and semantic transformations.
