Gender specifics of the linguo-axiosphere in American feminine sports chess discourse (based on online live streams)

Abstract. This study investigates the gender aspect of the linguo-axiosphere in American feminine sports chess discourse based on English-language online live streams. The study aims to establish the gender-specific features of the American society’s linguo-axiosphere by reconstructing its feminine segment formed within sports chess discourse. The article examines the characteristics of linguistic mechanisms used to realize the value component of evaluative utterances. The work identifies and describes the evaluative vectors that structure the content plane of individual axiological trajectories, which serve to trace the value dominants of a personality. A comparative analysis of the individual linguo-axiospheres of the participants in the American feminine sports chess discourse is also conducted. The scientific novelty of the study is determined by its combination of theoretical, methodological, and empirical results. For the first time within a linguo-axiological framework, a gender-marked segment of the American society’s linguo-axiosphere is systematically described through its reconstruction on the material of feminine sports chess discourse. The work reveals the hierarchical organization of axiological dominants verbalized within feminine chess discourse and proves the existence of a stable, gender-marked value core formed under the conditions of public media communication. Furthermore, a three-level model of the organization of the gender-marked segment of the linguo-axiosphere is tested, allowing for the integration of individual value characteristics into a cohesive structure of collectively shared axiological orientations. As a result, a corpus of axiologically marked linguistic units that verbalize gender-specific value dominants in American sports chess discourse is identified and characterized. The core zone comprises such value dominants as “authenticity and freedom of self-expression”, “competitive spirit”, “family and kinship ties”, and “psychological comfort”. The near-core zone includes “humor and self-irony”, “self-development and reflection”, “community recognition and respect”, and “respect for opponents and professionals”. The periphery contains the following axiological dominants: “professionalism and respect for others’ work”, “practicality and adaptability”, “discipline and hard work”, and “intellectual superiority”.
