DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN RESEARCHERS ON THE ROLE, ESSENCE AND CHRONOLOGY OF 1966-1976 "CULTURAL REVOLUTION" IN CHINA

Abstract. The article analyzes the domestic and foreign historiography of the second half of the XX century on the role, essence and chronology of "cultural revolution" in China. The author emphasizes the ambiguity of the essential-role and chronological arguments in historiographic science in relation to Mao Zedong’s political campaigns in the second half of the 1960s - the first half of the 1970s in China; the paper identifies the thematic preferences of scientific researches in Chinese, domestic and foreign historiographies, reveals the multi-level essential nature of "cultural revolution" having covered all the spheres of the Chinese society’s life.
