CONTEXTUAL REPRESENTATION OF THE CONCEPT "TOSKA" (DEPRESSION) IN F. M. DOSTOYEVSKY’S NOVEL "CRIME AND PUNISHMENT" AND ITS ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Abstract. The article deals with the problems of the realization of the contextual representation of the concept "TOSKA" (depression) in the translation of F. M. Dostoevsky’s novel "Crime and Punishment" into English. The paper studies the etymology of the word representing the concept "TOSKA", its lexical meaning and synonyms. The author identifies and analyzes linguistic units objectifying the concept "TOSKA" in the Russian text of the novel, as well as their translation into English. As a result of the research the means of the contextual representation of the concept under study in F. M. Dostoyevsky’s novel "Crime and Punishment" and its English translation are clarified.
