Abstract. In the article three narratives by one of the bright and talented representatives of the Russian prose of the 30s of the XIXth century - N. F. Pavlov, whose works have been little studied so far - are considered. The analysis of his narratives is presented against the background of the formation and development of the genre in the literature of the 30-40s.
