Abstract. The article reveals the content of the notion text and its key characteristics. The author pays special attention to text categories in the context of modern linguistic science achievements and to such text characteristics as completeness, addressing to somebody (something) and intertexuality, undertakes the attempt to analyze the formal text category: syntactic time, and having studied the existing experience of the notion text defining suggests her own definition of this notion.
