Abstract. The author discusses modelling as one of research methods, as well as the peculiarities of this method use in linguistics, considers the notions of modelling and linguistic model, analyzes the properties of language models, conducts the review of models from the perspective of their basic characteristics, also works out the typology of modern linguistic models, and comes to the conclusions about the possibilities of artificial models use in the analysis of natural language.
