LITERARY TRANSLATION AND GENDER: ADAPTATION IN FORMAT "WOMAN/ MANHANDLING"

Abstract. The author considers the problem of gender factor influence on the semantic transformation of literary texts that exploit gender stereotypes while translating, by the example of the "male" translation of a "female" poem analyzes the possible reasons of elimination and modification while translating gender-marked meanings, and puts in the center of the analysis the problem of the deliberate, motivated by purely ideological factors adaptation of text in the format "woman- / manhandling".
