FARCICAL CONTEXT OF CONVERSATION BETWEEN IVAN AND DEVIL IN NOVEL "THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV" BY F. M. DOSTOEVSKII

Abstract. The article researches the farcical context of the conversation between Ivan and the devil, one of the episodes of "The Brothers Karamazov", in which the author’s reference to the traditions of Punch comedy, embodied in the text and motives of puppeteering, the images of puppeteers and puppets, as well as in the subject- compositional organization of the scene, connected through symbolic signs-details with the construction of people’s spectacular performance, is traced. The main attention is paid to the autobiographical origins of farcical connotations and to those meaning-formative functions that are determined by farcical discourse.
