Loshakova Galina Aleksandrovna
Ulyanovsk State University

Abstract. The article theme is the consideration of the narrator’s functions in the Austrian writer M. G. Saphir’s prose. The purpose of the work is the introduction of the mentioned author’s texts into the Russian literary criticism sphere and their analysis on the basis of narrative theory. The conclusions are as follows: M. G. Saphir’s narrator, storyteller or "author", is present as often as not "inside" the portrayed event. He is, according to G. Genette’s methodology of text research, intradiegetic, that is why it is the author’s metalepsis that is frequently introduced.
Key words and phrases: повествователь, бидермейер, фокализация, нарративная перспектива, авторский металепсис, narrator, Biedermeier, focalisation, narrative perspective, author’s metalepsis
