Abstract. The article is devoted to the specifics of differentiated formation of foreign language educational and research competence with the magistrands of higher technical schools. The author presents a detailed analysis of the adopted in the science cognitive and style characteristics, distinguishing those which should be considered under development of methods for differentiated formation of foreign language educational and research competence. The special attention is paid to the interaction of cognitive styles field dependence / field independence and rigidity / flexibility of cognitive control.
