SEMANTIC AND COMMUNICATIVE-GRAMMATICAL FEATURES OF THE LEXEME ‘QUITE’

Abstract. The article is devoted to the semantic analysis of the lexeme ‘quite’. The main meanings and lexical-grammatical features are described. It is revealed that being a degree adverb / an intensifying particle the lexeme ‘quite’ has a lowering or heightening effect on an abstractly conceived intensity scale. The lexeme ‘quite’ is synonymous with the lexemes ‘just’, ‘exactly’, ‘only’, ‘simply’, ‘really’ in their emphatic meanings
