TOPICAL PROBLEMS OF CREATING NEW LEXICAL UNITS AND THEIR FUNCTIONING IN THE MODERN ENGLISH DISCOURSE

Abstract. The article reveals such notions as "neologism" and "occasionalism", tells about the major problems of word-formation in the modern English language. Special attention is paid to the main methods of forming new lexical units, such as compounding, affixation, abbreviation, contamination and others, as well as to the reasons and prerequisites for their appearance, their function in the modern English-language discourse. The author considers the main themes within which frameworks new words are formed, and the influence of technological progress, the world around, socium on the new vocabulary appearance.
