Zaika Ol'ga Viktorovna
Cherkassy State Technological University

Abstract. The article deals with the peculiarities of borderlands in American multiculturalism. The author of the article indicates that boundary person is one who is deprived of integrity. As a result many traditions are "split" in him and he belongs to any of them completely. Such person has two homes and is homeless at the same time. The notion of "transculturation" as a factor of "crossing" from one culture into another is also mentioned in the article. Special attention is paid to the analysis of borderlands in Jhumpa Lahiri’s story "Hell-Heaven".
