STRUCTURE OF THE NOVEL BY O. WILDE "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY" IN THE LIGHT OF PLATO’S PHILOSOPHY

Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of perception of Plato’s philosophy in the England at the boarder of XIX - XX centuries and its influence on the O. Wilde’s creative activity. The author proves conclusively that the novel of the English writer "The Picture of Dorian Gray" has a structure similar to a crystal where the form and idea, according to Plato’s philosophy, interpenetrate and simulate each other. The basis of a crystalline structure is a system of leitmotifs which have a decorative nature and promote aesthetic but not rational perception of a literary work.
