THE RECEPTION OF E. ROSTAND'S PLAY "CHANTECLER" IN THE RUSSIAN CRITICISM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract. In the article the reaction of the Russian criticism to the play "Chantecler" (1910) of the French playwright E. Rostand is analyzed. The author considers the notices and critical reviews appeared directly before the publication of the work and immediately after the giving a performance in France and then in Russia. The analysis of the reviews for 1910 allows emphasizing the factors which have not permitted "Chantecler" to repeat the success of E. Rostand's "Cyrano de Bergerac" (1897) in Russia.
