THE PERCEPTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF REDUCED UNSTRESSED ENGLISH VOWELS

Abstract. The article considers the perception of reduced vowels in the Canadian and Australian English by the Americans. The research confirmed the hypothesis that the Canadian reduced vowels are perceived by the Americans more successfully because of the greater proximity of vocalic systems of the Canadian and American English compared with the Australian variant.
