LINGUISTIC AND COGNITIVE APPROACHES TO STUDYING SYNONYMY (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE ENGLISH TASTE-DENOTING ADJECTIVES TASTY, DELICIOUS)

Abstract. The article analyzes the different examples of using adjectives tasty and delicious, basing on the interviewing of informants-native English speakers. The purpose of this study is to identify the semantic differential features of two synonymous adjectives, denoting gustatory sense within the frameworks of linguistic and cognitive approaches. The different aspects of one and the same concept can be actualized by means of synonyms. In the process of the analysis of adjectives semantic structure the author also reveals the ability to convey the features of other concepts - "utility" and "pleasure".
