Abstract. The article touches on the problems of studying the Russian language by foreigners in the XVI-XVII centuries. The author presents a description of the linguo-didactic situation of that time, which was characterized by clear motivation for studying the Russian language. The paper focuses on describing the facts of the arrival of foreigners in Russia, as well as conditions for studying the Russian language by them.
