ON HISTORY OF STUDYING THE OSSETIAN LANGUAGE

Malieva Zalina Nokhovna
North Ossetian State University named after K. L. Khetagurov

Abstract. The article describes the main stages of studying the Ossetian language during the XVII-XVIII centuries. The Ossetian language is one of the oldest languages - the remainder of the Scythian branch of the Iranian languages. There are several hypotheses about the origin of the language. However, the theory of the dual nature of the Ossetian language origin is recognized as the most credible one. Being originally Iranian, the language of the Ossetians underwent significant Caucasian influence. The presence of the Caucasian substratum in it proves this hypothesis.
