ON THE PROBLEM OF PRONUNCIATION NORMS OF THE MODERN GREEK LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article analyzes the connection of the modern achievements in the sphere of phonetic researches with the appropriate scientific theories of the ancient rhetoricians and emphasizes that acquaintance with the history and ideas of the classical rhetoric allows analyzing the origins of the current achievements. Along with the other sections included in the ancient rhetoric a seat of honour belonged to pronunciation and intonation which are the important elements of influence on the listener. Nowadays oral speech continues to be an object of comprehensive phonetic researches in the sphere of different languages, one of which is the modern Greek language. Relying on the analysis of the available phonetic investigations of the modern Greek language the authors formulate its pronunciation norms.
