Abstract. The article describes the main stages of studying the Ossetian language during the XVII-XX centuries. However, the most credible theory is the theory of dual nature origin of the Ossetian language. The works of the famous Russian and Ossetian scientists for centuries proved its Iranian origin, as well as the significant impact of Caucasia.
