Tananykhina Anastasiya Yur'evna
Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia

Abstract. The paper is devoted to studying reduplication in a diachronic aspect. The relation between the types of reduplication and structure of the language is considered. A hypothesis is presented about a number of factors contributing to the increased use of word-formative reduplication in the English language: strong analytical trend, the presence of rhyme in the literary tradition, the processes of creolization and pidginization. The author proposes the preliminary classification of the English reduplicated words by their structure and the method of formation.
Key words and phrases: редупликация, редуплицирующие глаголы, грамматическая редупликация, словообразовательная редупликация, немотивированная редупликация, биномные конструкции, reduplication, reduplicating verbs, grammatical reduplication, word-formative reduplication, unmotivated reduplication, binomial structures
