Abstract. The dual nature of syncretism is represented in a significant number of terms defining the notion, the content of which needs more precise definition and clear differentiation. The article, basing on the analysis of the part of the Russian language term system, related to the term "syncretism" and ambiguously interpreted primarily in the sphere of syntax, differentiates the established terms and proposes a definition of syntactic syncretism.
