THE ANALYSIS OF THE CATEGORY "MONO NO AWARE "IN THE FEMALE CHARACTERS OF MURASAKI SHIKIBU’S NOVEL "THE TALE OF GENJI"

Abstract. In the article the content of the aesthetic category "mono no aware" in Japanese literature in relation to the characteristics of the female characters in the novel "Tale of Genji" by Murasaki Shikibu is revealed. This category is the centerpiece in the Japanese poetics of the early Middle Ages, the novel is considered to be the quintessence of "mono no aware". The author focuses on the qualities of female characters in the novel and on the comparison of the novel with the preceding literary work "the Tales of Ise" to illustrate the evolution of the composition role of female characters and to highlight the perception of the concept "mono no aware".
