THE BASHKIR FOLK EPIC "ZAYATULYAK I KHYUKHYLU" (THE HISTORY OF COLLECTION, PUBLICATION AND RESEARCH)

Abstract. The article is devoted to the history of collection, publication and research of the Bashkir mythological epic "Zayatulyak i Khyukhylu". The plot of the epic having the archaic motifs is still current in live performance. The variants of the Bashkir cultural heritage were recorded in the Republic of Bashkortostan and in the Orenburg region. The existence of variants and versions of the epic "Zayatulyak i Khyukhylu" indicates that the work was of great importance in verbal poetic art in general and in the spiritual life of the people. The author also considers the popularization of the Bashkir epos.
