METAPHORS OF THE TRAGEDY BY W. SHAKESPEARE "ROMEO AND JULIET" IN THE TRANSLATIONS BY B. L. PASTERNAK AND T. L. SHCHEPKINA-KUPERNIK

Doctor In Philology

Abstract. The article is devoted to the metaphorical images in the tragedy by W. Shakespeare "Romeo and Juliet". The metaphors are examined from the viewpoint of the semantic structure introduced by S. M. Mezenin. In the Shakespearian tragedy the priority belongs to the metaphors developed according to the model "human being - nature". The paper is of interest since the metaphorical imagery of the whole poetical work was not investigated earlier. The author provides comparative analysis of the artistic metaphor translations executed by the professional translators B. Pasternak and T. L. Shchepkina-Kupernik. The paper presents the evaluation of their poetical translations as they are viewed by other authors.
Key words and phrases: метафора, образ, природа, трагедия, переводчик, сопоставительный анализ, семантическая модель, metaphor, image, nature, tragedy, translator, comparative analysis, semantic model
