SYNTACTIC CONSTRUCTIONS CATEGORIZING THE EXPLICIT MANIFESTATION OF DOUBT IN THE MODERN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The author focuses on the syntactic means to represent doubt through the non-me modus frame which objectifies the view on the subject of state from the position of observer. Relying on the research findings the author identified the following syntactic constructions categorizing the explicit manifestation of doubt: he/she/they + seem + to be doubting; he/she/they + seem, appear, look, sound + doubtful, he/she/they + to be being + doubtful and constructions with the conjunctions as if, as though.
