TOPONYMY OF SAMARA BEND IN THE ETHNIC-HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Abstract. In this paper the formation of the toponymy of a special region of Samara Volga Region - Samara Bend - is considered on the basis of the stages of the ethnic history of the area. The article presents the author’s point of view on the relative chronology of the formation of particular toponymic layers in Samara Bend region and their ethnic-linguistic identity. The researcher also gives the etymology of a number of toponyms; a part of them is represented as working hypotheses.
