THE TOPIC OF MAGIC IN J. R. R. TOLKIEN'S STORY "THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN" (LINGUO-ETHNIC INTERPRETATION)

Abstract. The artistic heritage of J. R. R. Tolkien, the creator of iconic works of the last century - "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" - becomes the subject of numerous researches on the reconstruction of the Old German mythopoetic model of the world. The basis of primitive religion was the cult of magic, which was an integral part of mythopoetic worldview. The paper attempts to analyze the linguistic units, verbalizing the ideas about magic and sorcery in the aspect, in which the presented phenomena remained as a fragment of the Old German worldview in the novel "The Hobbit: There and Back again".
