COMPARING THE SEMANTIC FIELDS OF THE RUSSIAN AND CHINESE CULINARY VERBS "TO BAKE" AND "TO STEAM"

Abstract. The article focuses on comparing Russian and Chinese culinary verbs "печь/?" (to bake) , and "парить/?" (to steam). Having analyzed the semantic content of lexical units by the component analysis method the author identified that semantic fields of the Russian and Chinese culinary verbs generally coincide. Semantic field of Russian culinary verbs is much broader than the Chinese and some Chinese verbs have no analogues in the Russian language due to the cultural restrictions (lacunas) in both languages, especially in Russian. The research materials can be used when teaching Chinese to foreigners, in the Russian-Chinese bilateral translation, while compiling dictionaries, etc.
