Abstract. The article discusses the role of toponymy in archaeology by the example of the names of different landscapes in the territory of Yakutia, where the archaeological excavations of the burials of the XVII-XVIII centuries were carried out. The analysis of toponyms shows the predominance of names of hills, alasses, as well as rivers and lakes as vital in the life and death of the Yakuts. The toponyms under study are classified into geographical and socio-economic ones, the former reflect the peculiarities of the Yakut landscape, and the latter reflect the traditional activity - cattle breeding and hunting.
Key words and phrases: топонимы, якутская археология, географические топонимы, социально-экономические топонимы, булгуннях, аласы, гидронимы, toponyms, the Yakut archaeology, geographical toponyms, socio-economic toponyms, pingo, alasses, hydronyms
