MODAL VERBS AS THE EVALUATION EXPLICATORS IN THE NEWSPAPER MESSAGES

Abstract. The article analyzes the realization of evaluation category by the material of English newspaper messages. The paper aims to study the functioning of modal verbs as the representants of author’s opinion. The researchers argue that in the analyzed fragments there are subjective-evaluative means which form the specific ideological system of views and values in the reader’s consciousness. The material is presented through the prism of author’s worldview which manifests itself by the use of modal verbs.
