Abstract. The article presents the analysis of appearance of new meanings of old words in the modern economic and socio-political lexicon of the Russian vocabulary, that is connected with the tendencies in the field of the usage of a plural number, the influence of the English language, the phenomenon of synesthesia and the use of reduced vocabulary. The results of the study are illustrated by the examples from the newspaper corpus of the Russian National Corpus.
