MODERN APPROACHES TO CLASSIFYING THE OLD ENGLISH POETRY: PROBLEMS OF PERIODIZATION

Abstract. The article analyzes the approaches to dating the Old English poetry in their modern state and historical development. The author provides the examples of achronic studies of poetry, such as genre classification and studying the poems in the manuscript context. The paper postulates the solvability of the dating problems relying on the linguistic methods.
